“Deja vu” - Paul Budde Communications Pty. Ltd.

It must have been in about 1986 that I had a brainstorming meeting with several people from Digital (DEC, then Compaq, now HP) at my office, which at that stage was still in Roseville, Sydney.
I was helping them with some of their corporate customers who wanted to install their own private videotex (Intranet) networks. They included organisations such as Lend Lease, BHP, TAFE and the CPA.

I remember Digital had a software system called 'Allin1' from which customers could access the various office applications. I wanted them to investigate turning this around and using their videotext system to access all the different office applications.
I even had meetings with Digital Corp in Boston, looking at possible opportunities; however this thinking was way too advanced for those days - videotex was not standardised and we hadn't, of course, even heard of the Internet at that stage.
Now fast forward to 2005…
At BuddeComm we are at present completely overhauling our back-office system. When we started our Internet service back in 1996, we truly were pioneers of e-commerce.
Over the following years we created one of those 'bolt-on systems', as new changes were made and new applications needed to be added. This system has served us well over the past decade, but it was time for us to sit back and look at the whole system. We were reaching the end of our capabilities and any further 'bolt-ons' would make operations far too complex. We hired a system engineer to analyse our systems and future requirements, and he subsequently assisted us in selecting our new IT supplier, Izilla.
We are now in the early phase of design, and they recently showed us the first cut of their system - and, yes, it will be a web-based system with all the office applications behind it.
Very much like the system I suggested to Digital nearly 20 years ago!
